Ascent 1 – Mayan Temple Ruins

I went ahead and made a very basic layout for the labs and the raptor pens and then went on to build the pyramid and trap section of the Mayan temple ruins.

I still have to build all the broken walls and smaller structures, but the hardest parts are done now. I’m using solids and very basic texturing methods, but for just a prototype stage it does a surprisingly good job. Decals help make it look a lot better.

The trees were just placed about randomly for this shot, when i’m done with the structures ill place them where they were in the original game. There are no smaller species like ferns yet, it should look pretty nice when these are added.

Hope you don’t mind the “micro updates”.

  2. Personally i love the micro updates. It shows progress and progress over the whole Island. In the past you didn’t tease the other parts of the Island, i can only imagine them being barren compared to JR and the stuff you showed in the video. So these micro updates are very much welcome. Even though stage one isn’t up to par with your previous work, the prospect of walking over Isla Sorna in a matter of months is very apealing to me.
    Hopefully other agree because i sense a little bit of dissapointment stress in a couple of reactions. But that doesn’t matter, this is looking great!

  5. Been following your work for long, but mainly as a spectator. It’s an amazing job youre doing now, Can’t wait to check your recreation of Trespasser, which is still one of my favorite game. Wish you good luck in the development.

    ps: I hope you you won’t stick as much to the origi game when youre doing the vegetation part 🙂 would be awesome to see dense forests just like in your previous project.

  8. wait, I’m confused, didn’t the fly trough have way more advanced geometry, or was it just the massive amounts of detail (plants and vegetation) and other stuff that made it seem like it did? now i have to be honest and admit i didn’t fully understand your post about spreading your work around and all that, but the goal is to make every part of the game look as awesome as as the flytrough video, right? with all the stuff and textures and whatnot? did you scrap all of your previous work to start over? or is those areas done already?
