Raptor

I decided to import the raptor today, but the standard pose is so.. weird, it forced me to learn how to rig a model in 3DS Max. After a couple of tutorials and about an hour later, i had it functioning enough to create a better looking pose.

I used a water ripple generator to simulate the raptor drinking.

    I played this game when I was about 10 years old, and as much as it frustrated me to death, it’s still one of my favourites of all time.

  4. This is awesome. I was really happy when you started working on vegetation fairly regularly, but this is a giant leap forwards!

  5. This is just beautiful, I can’t believe my eyes. It’s like going back in time… I don’t care about the old model, it’s awesome, I’m so jealous and frustrated about not being able to make textures work on 3dmax and cryengine haha

  7. I feel like my question from the other day is more relevant than ever haha. Have you been able to find anyone who is capable and/or willing to program the dinosaur AI?

    As a side question, are you planning on sculpting all of the models yourself or finding someone to do it for you? Have you considered just outright purchasing some of the reasonably priced models out there that have been already been made of JP canon dinos already to go like http://www.turbosquid.com/3d-models/3d-model-jurassic-park-multi-dino/631250 or one of the other many JP models they have one there? Are there legal issues to using one of those, or are you just more the hands-on do-it-yourself kinds (which I totally get).

      • Nah, I’ll sculpt better Dinos than those. And they’ll be more optimised. Some of those models have crazy high poly counts, and it’s just wasted. I’ll tweak the raptor soon and up the poly count a bit. I made my own normal maps just from the skins, but playing Trespasser yesterday, I had a good look at the raptor and the bump maps looked quite good, so I’ll check those out. I’ll eventually import all the Dinos and have them throughout the island. It helps with scale and veg placement, so I know how dense to make it.

  8. Can’t remember the default raptor stance. Was it the one used in the promotional material, where it had a fierce stance. Or the spawning stance, like so; http://www.ingennet.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/raptor_red-300×224.gif
